Rancho Santa Margarita is a young town, founded in 1984, growing during the 'boom' of the late 80's and 90's. The town is located on the East of Mission Viejo, is bounded on the North by the natural wonder of Trabuco Canyon and to the East by the foothills of the Cleveland National Forest providing wonderful views, as well as extensive hiking, biking and horseback opportunities.
Comprised of about 50,000 residents on 12-13sq.miles, the planned community boasts multiple parks, recreation facilities and access to two great school districts, as well as a number of private and parochial schools. A man-made 11 acre lake for the use of RSM residents is centrally located and offers seasonal paddleboat rentals, beach club facilities and fishing, and has been the site for terrific fireworks displays. RSM has for years been rated among the 5 safest towns in the nation with population above 25,000.
